Mona Yuan’s passion for art has led her to the Digital Animation Program at the British Columbia Institute of Technology. Having graduated from Langara College with a Diploma in Fine Arts, she was able to hone her skills in traditional art. She wanted to challenge herself and expand her skills, leading her to enter the world of digital art. Although Mona has stepped onto new territory, her love for fine art has not ceased and it has enabled her to bring her art to a new level.
As well as being a student, she is currently a visual artist for the Vancouver based coffee shop, Uprising Breads. For the shop, she creates aesthetically pleasing and eye catching chalkboard art, as well as hand painted posters for the holiday seasons. Mona hopes to merge her strong fine art background with her newly obtained skills in digital arts to thrive in her future career as an artist.
Mona has worked on many art projects around her community starting from high school. She was president of the Poster Club and was in charge of appealing advertisements for the school. Upon graduation, Mona’s strong art skills and extensive involvement within the school and community led her to receive the Davies International Award for Excellence in Visual Art, Ed and Victoria Sunday Visual Art Scholarship and Vancity Savings Credit Union Scholarship. Over the years she has created various Christmas window paintings, wall murals, and posters for local shops, hospitals and community centres. Mona has also dabbled in graphic design, creating ads that have been printed in Vancouver’s Georgia Straight newspaper and Where magazine.
